Abstract

Global warming and the rise in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere is caused by excessive greenhouse gas emissions that the planet's biocapacity can no longer absorb. The continuously increasing population and improving living standards require more and more resources that nature can’t provide in the long term. A conscious and green approach is urgently needed in all areas. A significant share of energy use and carbon emission is linked to the construction industry, with the amount of energy needed to build, maintain and operate buildings being very high, accounting for 40% of the global energy consumption. In addition to the energy efficient operation of buildings, a complex mindset and design methods are needed in order to reduce the energy and raw material usage in construction phase as well [1].
